Air Fryer Salmon - 5 Ways

Don’t get stuck in a rut making your salmon the same way every time. Check out the following five recipes for air fryer salmon to give you fresh ideas for dinnertime. Each of these recipes have a cook time of under 15 minutes. Add a side salad or roast some vegetables alongside your fish and it can’t be any more simple. Keep reading for some cooking tips and answers to some common questions.

What temperature should I cook my salmon in the air fryer?

The recipes featured here today range in cooking temperatures between 350-400°. A higher temperature will lend to a faster outside cook, thus leaving the inside a big more pink (which is completely safe to eat). A lower and slower cook time will cook the salmon more thoroughly.

How do I know my salmon is done?

Whichever temperature at which you decide to cook your fish, the internal temperature of the salmon needs to be 125-135° for a medium to medium rare, and 145° for a more firm, well-done fish. A clear indicator of doneness is when the salmon easily flakes with a fork. My suggestion is to pull the fish before you think it’s ready as it will continue to cook a bit, and nothing is worse than over-cooked, dry fish.

Do I leave the skin on or take it off before cooking?

This is a matter of personal preference. There is nothing wrong with eating the skin, but some people don’t like it.

You may find that leaving the skin on helps keep the fish more moist. It also helps to prevent it from sticking to the pan or basket. If you would like to remove the skin but don’t want it to stick, try spraying the pan with oil, coating your fish in a light layer of oil, or cooking the salmon on a piece of parchment paper.

Can I cook salmon in the air fryer from frozen?

Did you forget to take your frozen fish out to defrost before cooking? Don’t fret. You CAN cook your salmon in the air fryer directly from frozen. Note; the texture is going to be a lot better if you do defrost it first, but if you simply don’t have the time, here is what I would do.

How to cook salmon from frozen

Start by placing the frozen salmon into the cold air fryer and preheating it with the salmon inside. In this instance I would use a lower cooking temperature, around 360° so you don’t overcook the outside while the inside warms. When the air fryer is fully preheated, open the door and add your rub, butter, seasonings, etc. to the fish and cook until it reaches the desired internal temperature. Honestly, though, if your fish is sealed in plastic and still frozen, add it to a bowl or sink full of cold water and it will defrost in no time. This will yield the best results, in my opinion.
